About Me

A Green Heron poised for the strike along the Juniata River, August 2019

Hello! My name is McKenzie and I am a current senior Environmental Studies major at Gettysburg College. I am most passionate about Wildlife and Conservation as well as Education. I believe that everyone deserve the best education, despite their socioeconomic status. One of my goals is to improve my scientific communication skills so that I can better educate those around me.

My passion for the environment has always been evident. I have always been immersed in nature since I was as young as I can remember. Whether it was going hunting with my dad or just listening to the birds in my yard, I loved spending time outside. This passion has grown exponentially since my time at Gettysburg College. One of the highlights being the recent Climate Strike on September 20th, 2019. I had the honor of speaking in front of my peers, faculty, and the surrounding community in an attempt to start a fire in their hearts to continue fighting against climate change.

I am involved in a lot of service outside of the classroom, including a role as the President of the Gettysburg Environmental Concerns Organization. This has given me an amazing opportunity to focus on improving my environmental communication to those who share the same passions, as well as with the surrounding community.

I am also passionate about nature photography. I have a deep love for wildlife and the best way to portray this to others is through photos. If I am not studying or playing with my new puppy, I can be found staring at the sky in search of beautiful birds. If you would like to check out some of my photos, check out my photography blog!
