About Me

Hi there! Thank you for coming to my page. I am currently a senior Environmental Studies (B.S.) and Biology (B.S.) major with a writing minor at Gettysburg College. I am originally from a small town in North-Central Maryland and I came to Gettysburg to continue my education while also staying close to home!

Growing up, my father always had me outside. Whether we were hiking through the woods tracking white-tailed deer or planting trees on my family farm, I quickly came to love the Earth and all of its natural processes. This love has carried me through life and into my current educational path. Writing has served as a creative outlet for me for as long as I can remember and being able to combine my passions for science and the environment with my passion for writing is the exact reason I decided to take environmental journalism!

Exploring Glacier National Park

Outside of the classroom, I am a member of the Gettysburg Environmental Concerns Organization and Green Gettysburg. I spend time as a tutor at the Gettysburg College Writing Center, and I also work at the Carriage House Inn, a fine-dining restaurant. In my free time, I enjoy keeping my nose in a good book and I like to be outside, hiking, photographing nature’s beauty, and walking my dog Tod.

My Journalistic Stories

Want To Become an Environmental Journalist? “Do Great Work” Everywhere!

This story, co-authored with McKenzie Somers and Kenzie Smith, covers the field trip taken by the environmental journalism class to Washington D.C. It turns out that the Gettysburg College motto “Do Great Work” isn’t just specific to our campus! Read more about it by clicking the link above!

Conservation of Lions and Tigers and Bears, Oh My! But…What About the Other Guys?

McKenzie Somers and I wrote this story about the disproportionate focus of biodiversity conservation. We explore the concept of non-charismatic species and argue that with education and the spread of information, we can enlighten global citizens with the benefits that conservation of ALL species can have. This story also includes an interesting radio minute that aired on the Gettysburg College radio WZBT.

Exploring the Role of Biodiversity Awareness on the Gettysburg College Campus

If you’re interested in checking out my cumulative environmental journalism project, take a look at this multimedia website created by myself and McKenzie Somers. This feature story explores the roles of biodiversity awareness on the Gettysburg College campus, and includes information about biodiversity projects, local wildlife, and student perceptions on this topic. This was a great final project to utilize the skills we gained throughout the semester!
